I think that this week's tip is pretty obvious, but perhaps you haven't given it much thought. I know I need to dive into this one deeper.
Tip #4: Cook with beans
If you want to cut back on that grocery bill, buy less meat and buy more beans. Brown rice and beans make a full protein, so we really don't need to eat as much meat as we do to get protein in our diet. I think that the average meat-eating north american person probably eats more protein than they need daily. One great resource for bean recipes and to get more of an awareness about the foods we eat is a cookbook called More with Less. It's a mennonite cookbook full of recipes and tips. You can find it here.
I have some beans and veggies in the crockpot right now making a soup. I hope it turns out alright. I really don't have a lot of experience with dry beans ( I did soak them overnight but they were still pretty hard this morning). But beans are inexpensive, especially if you buy them dry, and they last a long time in your pantry.
